Predictions: 2014 Oscars

Oscars

This will be pretty worthless since I didn’t get a chance to finish watching all the films (crossed out items are ones I haven’t seen yet). I’m torn between what I think the Academy will choose and what I think ought to win. I’m always naive enough to think they’ll pick the better movies/roles, but that has hardly ever been the case. Anyway, here’s my stab in the dark, which is pretty much a sweep by 12 Years a Slave:

Best Picture
American Hustle
Captain Phillips
Dallas Buyers Club
Gravity
Her
Nebraska
Philomena
12 Years a Slave
The Wolf of Wall Street

Chiwetel Ejiofor – 12 Years a Slave
Matthew McConaughey – Dallas Buyers Club

Best Supporting Actor

Bradley Cooper – American Hustle
Michael Fassbender – 12 Years a Slave
Jonah Hill – The Wolf of Wall Street

Lupita Nyong’o – 12 Years a Slave
Julia Robers – August: Osage County

Best Original Screenplay
American Hustle (Backup pick–not because I liked it, but because I think the Academy might)
Blue Jasmine (I hate Woody Allen)
Dallas Buyers Club (Less flawed–my backup pick if I were voting)
Her (Deeply flawed, but the one I would pick of the ones I’ve seen, if I were voting)
Nebraska (Despite not having seen it, I still think it will win. It just has to be better than the other ones…)

Best Adapted Screenplay
Before Midnight (Backup pick)
Captain Phillips
Philomena
12 Years a Slave
The Wolf of Wall Street

Best Documentary
The Act of Killing
20 Feet from Stardom
Cutie and the Boxer (Backup pick)
Dirty Wars
